Teach your child to jump and roll over on their back to take a breath
The practice of making your child jump into the water and turning on their back to breathe:
It is important that your child learns to get out of the water on his own. Afterward when your child wants to jump, be sure to remind them to go look up to the sky for a breath of fresh air immediately after they jump.
Once he has caught his breath, he can turn onto his stomach and do his “Reach and Pull” and add his kick to a water outlet (steps or ladder). He will need help at the start so it is important that you assist him to roll onto his back when he is jumping. By practicing and being consistent with rolling onto their back, they will develop the reflex and habit to do it eventually on their own.
Be sure to establish a rule for jumping in the water. (example: Always warn an adult, count to 3 before jumping and roll onto their back to breathe.) These will condition your child to always take time to take a breath and to be careful.
